Survios has an opening for a talented Senior Technical Animator working with Unreal Engine 5 to develop world-class games for consoles, PC, and VR. We are looking for a talented, passionate, and self-motivated individual to contribute to our team. The ideal candidate has broad experience in all aspects of technical animation and has a passion for bringing complex characters, creatures, weapons, equipment, and environments to life. There is an emphasis in working with all disciplines to build the best technology and games possible.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain animation systems using:
    • Animation State Machines
    • Blend Spaces
    • Blueprints
    • Cloth
    • Control Rigs
    • Physics Assets
    • Sequencer
    • And more
  • Work closely with animation, engineering, design, and art to solve complicated animation problems such as:
    • Non-traditional locomotion, including wall/ceiling running and transitioning to those spaces.
    • Characters that operate in both bipedal and quadrupedal animation on the same rig.
    • Animation and rigging setups that work well in both first person and VR.
    • Complex gameplay driven animation with full body in engine IK.
  • Work predominantly in Unreal Engine, but also in DCC and motion capture pipelines as necessary.
  • Design, implement, refine, and support animation pipelines, procedures, and best practices.
  • Stay current with and research new animation technologies.
  • Participate in technical reviews of animation related assets.
  • Work with Production to create, maintain, and execute a development plan to deliver all Technical Animation elements on time and within budget.
  • Work closely with all disciplines to ensure constant alignment with the project’s goals.
  • Manage and organize technical animation documentation.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years experience as a Technical Animator.
  • 2+ shipped titles on console, PC, or VR.
  • 2+ years experience in Unreal Engine 4 or 5.
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of modern 3D animation and the technology behind it.
  • Expert knowledge of Maya, Motionbuilder, or similar 3D packages.
  • Experience writing tools/scripts/code libraries in Python, C++, or other relevant languages.
  • Experience with facial animation pipelines such as Faceware or FaceFX.
  • Experience and comfort in understanding, developing, and leveraging proprietary tools and technology.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and with deadlines.
  • Experience planning and estimating technical animation work.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • Effective collaborator with contributors, leads, and directors from all disciplines.

Pluses:

  • Experience developing VR/AR games

Base salary range between $110,000 USD - $130,000 USD (Base salary range for applicants located within the United States)
