Puzzle Bobble 3D Accessibility Modes Revealed in Honor of Color Blind Awareness Day
This Color Blind Awareness Day, learn how we consulted with color blind gamers to create our most accessible game yet
In honor of this year’s Color Blind Awareness Day, we’re thrilled to reveal three different “Color Blindness Accessibility Modes” in an effort to make our upcoming PlayStation title, Puzzle Bobble 3D: Vacation Odyssey, more accessible for all.
These modes will be available when Puzzle Bobble 3D: Vacation Odyssey launches later this year on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The alternative color options will also be added later this year to Puzzle Bobble VR: Vacation Odyssey for Oculus Quest and Quest 2.

What Is Color Blindness?
Color blindness is a visual condition affecting roughly one in twelve men and one in two hundred women around the world. Ordinarily, the human eye contains three types of cone cells, each capable of detecting various shades of red, green or blue. Working together, these cones allow the eye to see the full spectrum of colors. A color blind person is someone who is missing or has a deficiency in one of these cones, and is unable to see the colors in that cone’s spectrum.

How Does Puzzle Bobble 3D Accommodate Color Blind Players?
We wanted to make sure that Puzzle Bobble 3D: Vacation Odyssey is vivid and vibrant for everybody, which is why we consulted extensively with color blind playtesters to create three different accessibility modes: Red/Green, Blue/Yellow, and Universal.
- R/G – For players with difficulty distinguishing between red and green
- B/Y – For players with difficulty distinguishing between blue and yellow
- UNI – This universal mode is for players with any sort of colorblindness, including Monochromacy. In this mode, all colors are replaced with black, white or patterns.
“It has always been Survios’ goal to make our games more accessible for everyone, including gamers with color vision deficiency,” said Survios Chief Product Officer TQ Jefferson. “With the addition of these three color blindness accessibility options, we are one step closer to fostering a more-inclusive experience for our titles.”
