Responsibilities:

  • Be accountable for all feature development quality in design (Combat, Player Systems, etc).
  • Work closely and support the Principal and Senior Designer(s) in their field and other designers (Level, Technical) on feature development progress.
  • Support career advancement and suggest development and interpersonal skills training and techniques sessions to team members.
  • Review Documented work in a timely way. Make sure documentation is kept updated
  • Work with the Production Team to determine both the work schedules and vacation times of team members.
  • Assess the workload vs. production capacity, plan the work, and set priorities for their game design team.
  • Communicate with the Production Team related to their design team's deliverables list, output quality, feature scope and current progress.
  • Work collaboratively with all designers and ask insightful, constructive questions about their work.
  • Communicate design objectives, strategies, and general information to other design and discipline leads.
  • Act as a regular liaison in design decision-making process with the Design Director and oversee adjustments to ensure their game design team meets expectations.
  • Supervise and be responsible for providing clear and structured design documents to ensure that gameplay intentions are understood.
  • Attend playtests and be solution-oriented to the problems encountered.
  • Carry out performance reviews, follow ups and assessments for their design team
  • Participate in the selection of team members in the broad design team.
  • Communicate with the Design Director related to team morale, project deliverables and design team work quality.
  • Create a work environment that is motivating for team members and which fosters development and creation.
  • Manage and communicate any conflicts that arise within the design team.

Requirements: 

  • 5+ years of game industry experience.
  • Worked on at least 1 complete product cycle as Lead Designer, preferably on AAA game franchise.
  • Experience leading small to medium sized design teams (3+ designers).
  • Demonstrable leadership qualities.
  • Desire to grow talent and build up people around you.

Pluses:

  • Experience working with VR prototyping.
  • Knowledge of Agile Methodology, JIRA, Perforce, etc.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine.
  • Strong, updated and current portfolio with samples of your work.
