As a Senior Combat Designer, you will be responsible for leading complex first person combat interactions from initial concept, to prototype, asset integration, tuning and polish. This position will be responsible for overseeing implementing a rapid iteration pipeline with prototyping player and enemy mechanics and systems for first-person games. The ideal candidate will have a thorough knowledge of game design theory and tools pipelines, possess strong leadership skills and production know-how, and have the talent to produce and implement the highest quality work.   • Drive feature development on specific large Combat features.
  • Collaborate with the Principal and Lead Combat designers and follow-up on prototyping (both digital and paper based) with other game designers and programmers.
  • Work closely and support Intermediate Combat Designers and other designers on feature development progress.
  • Communicate progress, raise issues and deliver work in a timely manner to your Lead and Production teams.
  • Document work in a clear and concise way. Keep documentation updated.
  • Work collaboratively with all designers and ask insightful questions about their work.
  • Work collaboratively with the Production Team when asked and provide all work requested.
  • Participate in the selection of team members in the broad design team.
  • Contribute to a work environment that is motivating for team members and which fosters development and creation.
  • Attend playtests and be solution-oriented to the problems encountered.
  • Communicate with the Lead Designer and design leadership related to team morale, project deliverables and design team work quality.


  • 5+ years of game industry experience designing and implementing players and enemies.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 4 or similar proprietary level editors.
  • Very comfortable working in game editors and understanding engine/game constraints and opportunities.
  • Strong understanding of scripting languages such as: Blueprints, Behavior Tree, C#, or Javascript.
  • Worked on at least 1 complete product cycle as a Combat Designer, preferably on AAA game franchises.
  • Must have proven ability to prototype new mechanics.
  • Strong methodology and problem solving ability, with a focus on rapid iteration to achieve balance, accessibility, and fun.
  • Deep understanding of combat design across multiple genres; how animation, art and player input affects feel and player experience.


  • Experience working with VR prototyping.
  • Knowledge of Agile Methodology, JIRA, Perforce, etc.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine.
  • Strong, updated and current portfolio with samples of your work.
