JetSpace Students Get Electrified with Electronauts
Recently, Survios had the honor of contributing to JetSpace, a cutting-edge after-school program by a 21st-century learning laboratory at Locke High School in Watts, CA. Equally embracing STEM and arts education, the program empowers its students to learn and create by providing them with world-class tools and mentorship from both educators and career professionals.
Among those tools is a recording studio open to all aspiring musicians in the program. The Watts community has a rich musical heritage, and several of their students are descendents of notable jazz and hip hop musicians. These students are incredibly talented in their own right, as we’d soon find out from the talent showcase we witnessed!
JetSpace also has a virtual reality setup that they had been using for science education purposes. After experiencing Electronauts, JetSpace’s organizers thought our VR remix and production tool would be a great fit for their program, so we happily agreed to share it with their students on their home turf, only a short drive from Survios HQ in Los Angeles.
Their hunch about Electronauts proved correct: after a quick demo, the students enthusiastically jumped in and started remixing music from some of their favorite artists on the fly. Survios’s own Henry Halvorson (a.k.a. DJ GOODHENRY), Cameron MacNair, and Roger Jao also shared career development and music production tips. It was a deeply rewarding experience for all involved and an exciting start to our relationship with JetSpace and the bright young students of Locke High School.
