Survios raises $4 Million Series A funding led by Shasta Ventures
Virtual Reality platform puts full body motion technology within reach, backed by early investor of Nest
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 19 2014) – Los Angeles¬based Survios, the first technology platform to bring full body motion technology into the virtual reality fold, today announced it has raised $4 million in Series A funding, led by Shasta Ventures. Rob Coneybeer, Managing Director at Shasta Ventures and an early investor in Nest and RelayRides, will join the board of directors. Additional investors include Renata Quintini of Felicis Ventures and Gen Isayama of World Innovation Lab.
Founded in 2013 by the technologists behind Project Holodeck at the University of Southern California, Survios is tackling many new challenges around full motion hardware and design, combining immersive visuals with bodily movement to create a truly compelling experience.
“We’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg in terms of what is truly possible for the VR industry,” remarked Nathan Burba, Co¬founder and CEO of Survios. “We are honored and excited to be gaining the attraction of some of the industry’s best and brightest minds.”
Mr.Coneybeer added, “Survios is hands down the best at what they do. The team is young, hungry and extremely talented, and they have solved some tremendously important challenges that will enable the entire VR industry to evolve.”
Head¬mounted displays are just one piece of the puzzle. “To feel like you’re in the holodeck, you need more than a sensation of presence. You need embodiment,” said James Iliff, Co¬founder and CCO of Survios. “You actually have a body in the virtual environment, and that body is just as responsive and lifelike as your real one.” Survios brings physical movement into the user experience, allowing for intuitive and natural interactions that go far beyond the sedentary nature of many VR experiences today.
With the new capital, Survios will expand their team of talented VR designers and engineers to accelerate the development of immersive technology and continue to push the boundaries of virtual reality.
