"We see gaming as an art form. And we don't just want to make games more immersive — we want to make them more human."
We see a world where virtual reality is the preferred medium for play. Where makers can conceive, create, and collaborate in entirely new ways. We want to reignite what truly makes us human. Feel the rush of battle, the awe of exploration, and the exhilaration of imaginary futures and recreated pasts. The name Survios comes from the English prefix "sur" meaning "above, beyond" and the Greek 'βίος' meaning "life, reality" — taken literally, Survios means Beyond Reality. And this is exactly where we think the future is headed.
In May 2013 we founded Survios to further our immersion research and craft new forms of VR gaming, software and entertainment. We completed our Series A fundraising round, which has allowed us to recruit a world-class team of technologists, engineers, designers, and artists. By developing hardware, software, and content all under the same roof we are able to take a holistic approach to VR design and ultimately push VR forward.
In March 2012 we launched Project Holodeck as an interdisciplinary effort at the University of Southern California, bringing together a team of technical artists and engineers to tackle big challenges such as avatar embodiment, positional movement, 3DUI, and game design for VR. As our final project we developed one of the first full-motion VR games ever, called Wild Skies. Soon enough we were able to build a truly immersive VR environment that was intuitive, engaging, and (we think) super entertaining.
